Mine died when I was 7, but she enstilled in me a love for fatback and cornbread.
We would go visit her after school a lot and she would ALWAYS have either some fatback or sausage patties covered up on top of the stove for us. If anyone else came to visit during the day Grandmother would hide the plate of fried foods and save them for me and my sister.
Not sure what happened to her cornstick pans but her cast iron frying pans are now in my possession.

Lye based oven cleaner is the best I've found to strip it down to bare metal. Spray it on and wrap in a garbage bag for a couple of days. Whatever is left (shouldn't be much) will come off with a wire wheel. I've yet to season one good enough to where an egg will slide around on it though.

It'd be very hard to make an egg slide on a new cast iron pan without altering with a wire wheel and sand paper. The new ones have a course texture to them. There are many videos out there that show you how to get rid of it. I asked lodge about that a while back. I can't remember what they said though. I think it was something to the effect of "stayin seasond" better/longer or something like that. I don't need an egg to slide, I just don't want it to stick.

They're using a coarser grain of sand for their molds than the old Griswold and Wagner casters. Seriously. Simple has a video of cooking eggs on his new lodge after he smoothed it down and that thing is sliding around like a deer on ice.

You know, you still have to use butter or some type of grease.

Also, I need you to go buy sand. I don't know if they grade it, but if they do... coarse.

All you need is alot of bacon grease. The trick is to get it real hot.

Here ya go. Go to the 9:30 mark if you don't want to see the sanding.
