    Default Quiet .22?

I'm looking into buying a .22 rifle and noise is a concern. I'm thinking an air rifle from the limited research I've done. What experiences have y'all had with these? Good and bad brands/models?

Think short range head/ear coyote shots.

    Thanks in advance.

how far of a shot are you going to take? you can get subsonic .22 rounds, with a suppressor, and you wont hear anything but the firing pin, but you also arent going to nail them in the head at 100 yards either

A .22 rifle with CB Longs is generally quieter than a high-power air rifle.

No longer than 5-35 yards. Thanks
I plan to look into the suppressor route as well but that would be a year or so out if I did it today.

High power air rifles often mimic .22's.

By mimic, you mean in terms of noise/DBs?

So would a regular .22 rifle with CB longs be roughly the same noise? As effective at under 40 yards?

Yes, but less noise than a .22 air rifle. IMO. Those CB Longs are quiet and accurate.

I also want to ask...are you shooting at coyotes in a neighborhood?? If so, shoot thru an open widow while sitting back from said window and nobody will hear it.

I do this with squirrels all the time.

A spread out neighborhood, 3ish acre lots. Some folks want to pet and love the yotes and others want them dead. Elevated porch, heavily wooded area.

Just shoot them. One .22 shot, now and then, no one is even going to know what it is or where it came from. Just don't shoot more than once at a time.

    This.

I have a break barrel pellet rifle that is considerably louder than my .22 with CB's. Also, I think CCI changed the name of their CB ammo to Quiet ammo. It is hell on squirrels in the top of my pecan trees.

    Check out www.airgundepot.com ... I think that's the name.

You can get air guns with suppressors built in to the barrel and it doesn't require a tax stamp. You can also get reconditioned guns at a nice discount. Just remember that all the speeds they advertise are based on lightweight alloy pellets so your actual speed with lead pellets will be slower.

Thanks All!! I'll be looking at the 10/22 at this point, seems to be a quality tool (for me, the wife and kids).

Just to let you know, CB's will not cycle through a semiautomatic. At least not consistently. A bolt or lever action works best for those rounds. The reason they are quiet is because they have less powder.

I just read that, thanks for the Pro Tip. I'll assume about any bolt or lever .22 would suffice?

I have a CZ 452 Scout that is very handy around the neighborhood.
