Well first slit is over and I can say it was pretty damn good. Hit the specks for a couple day before duck season. For some reason the hunting is a little off the first day or two at our place in AR then everything smooths out and gets better. This year was no different. I got an invite to go hunt with a buddy in Illinois for a few days and headed up there mid week. Had never hunted Illinois. Glad I did. Around 190 mallards in 4 days. First day was a dry field ( winter wheat) with 45dz mallard decoys running traffic on ducks coming out of the refuge. Lots of calling. Definitely different then what I’m use to but a good hunt. Next 3 days were timber hunts one of which was off the charts. We rotated 5 groups through the hole. Killed 100 mallards, 8 wood ducks, 1 pintail and a redhead and done at 9:45. I stayed and helped with the calling and running dogs for the whole thing. It was pretty awesome for sure. Only got pics of of 3 of the 5 on that hunt due to shuffling people in and out as quick as possible.
