Had all my archery stuff stolen some 6-7 or more years ago, and just never bothered replacing it. Well, bbhntr48 posted a bow for sale back on the 23rd that caught my attention, so I made an offer that he accepted. We finally were able to meet up on the 29th to close the deal, and I finally had a bow back in my hands. Finally was able to catch up with Bud at the archer shop in Summerville Friday to get everything set for me. Did some shooting over the weekend to get a good feel for my new to me bow, and felt really comfortable with it. Decided to hang a stand Sunday so I would have somewhere to sit when I got a chance. My chance came today, and the wind was perfect, so I slipped in a little before 4:30 this afternoon. Had a medium size doe ease in to about 25 yards around 5, but never had a shot on her. A small buck slipped in around 5:30 and chased her around until she finally ran off. Then the buck eased in to less than 10 yards from the tree I was in, but spooked and disappeared. Finally, at 5:52, a small yearling slipped in right in front of my stand. I had said that I was going to shoot what ever gave me a shot, but I swear that might have been the smallest deer I have ever seen. Luckily, momma wasn't far behind her. She stepped out, I drew, and flung an arrow at her. I had forgotten that distinct sound that an arrow makes when it tears through flesh and bone. She took off, and ended up crashing about 15 yards to the left of me. I looked at my watch, and it was 5:54. I eased up, and got all my stuff together and climbed on down to check her out. Not bad for my first bow hunt in God only knows how many years.
