    Default single pin sight question

Am interested in what everyone is using who has gone to a single pin sight. I'd like to go that direction in the near future and so wanted to have a good idea of what brands people have liked so when I find one for the right price I can pull the trigger. I get more info from the good folks on here then I do spending 5 hours reading on the www

I have an HHA optimizer lite. Really like it, it is a slide (not a turn dial). The yardage lines are in 10yd incremements. They make more precise turn dial sights but for my purposes the 10yd incremements work just fine. Search for reviews and you will see the vast majority of hunters reccomend HHA and they are easy to set up. I traded my 5-pin for the HHA I have now on archerytalk. Retail, the slide models are $130-$180 depending on which model you get.

I have the Optimizer Ultra with the 6ft wrap and adjustable 2" housing. Whichever you decide to buy I'd make sure to go with the 2'' housing. It really helps in low light. I bought mine off ArcheryTalk without a scratch on it for something like $120 to my door. Once you get one of these sights and set it up you will see how easy they make shooting 60-80 yards.

Dial will be more precise and generally go out to further distances. Dial will also be more expensive. I would also second the adjustable housing. You can adjust how much of the wrap is exposed to light. Fully exposed, the pin is very bright. During the daytime I have to close it down some because it can actually get too bright for me.

Dials are more expensive and you can dial to the exact yardage. Sliders are in 10 yard increments with dashes for the 5 yard increments. It's still not hard to slide to say 27 yards and know where that mark should be on the tape (unless you're stupid). HHA OL5510 is what I use. It's the longest fiber optic for that model with the smallest pin. It has a rheostat so if the pin is too bright you can cover up the fiber wraps around the housing and dim the pin. Also, when it gets dark you can open it up and be able to see your pin when it's darker than I would personally want to shoot a deer.

I shoot an excel accutouch. What I like about it is it has clicks you can preset so you know what yardage you are at while dialing your yardage. This way you don't have to look down you can feel it. If I did not get an excel I would get a Montana black gold they have the best fiber on the market hands down. I put black gold fiber in my excel. Excel also makes a rheostat on the scope for adjusting brightness.

Replacing your fiber with what you want is cheap and easy. I currently have red Montana black gold fiber cost me $10 to put it on my sight.

Get an HHA kingpin .10 3 pin slider. Slider will be good to 100 once dialed in at 20 and 60 and proper tape is selected.

Switching to black gold fiber is solid advice.

For a movable single pin I'd go with HHA. For a fixed single pin I like the Vital Gear sight, it has a lot of exposed fiber for light gathering and its bullet proof.

I don't see how y'all use MBG. Every one that I have tried has been way too bright and caused a halo. I don't think that Vital Gear is operational anymore. If you want a single fixed pin I would suggest the Trophy Ridge Aplha One. Great sight.

I switched when I started having trouble with my 40yr/old eyes. I noticed fairly quickly that I much preferred the single pin, but I did run into that steady moving buck that had me adjusting when I should have been compensating and loosing an arrow. I found that SpotHog would build me a 2pin slider, so I went that route. Top pin is .19 and bottom is .10...both green, as nothing else is as bright. I set my top pin for 20 and bottom pin for 30 with the dial set on “30” and that way, I’m sitting ready for anything that walks in to 32-33yards or less. If he’s between 20-30, I shoot the gap. Anything that is 33 or further, I either have time to adjust, or I don’t need to be shooting. On the SpotHog I have...think it’s a HoggIt...getting it sighted in then generating the tapes is a bit more complicated than some other sights out there, but once you get it set, you can shoot out to 100 if you can hold it on target, and it’s money. Built like a brick shit house and expensive, but crazy quality.
