    I'm kind of starting to think the 30 hp 4 stroke would suite me just fine. I'm getting to the point in my life that I don't need to see 50 mph in my duck boat anymore.

    I know where a 85 yammy short shaft 40 is. Or was if he still has it he wants 2000 for it.

    You find a Yamaha short shaft 40 or 50 in decent shape you better be ready to shovel out some cash unless it's broke and you don't mind fixing it.

    AND--- Just bought a 1997 50/hp special on a pontoon today and had been sitting in the water for 7/yrs. Gear Oil had NO water in it and the compression was 137/135. Cranked it with the Triton Gas. No-E. Hater's gonna hate. Sittin in the HOLE NOW.

    Some guy at the gas station offered me 3000 one day if we unbolted my 40 Yamaha four stroke short shaft off my war eagle and put it in the back of his truck. Told him if I did that I wouldn't be able to go fishing.

    Are you blowing out used lower units? If so, they are already old before you put them on. I didn't read whole thread, but you can find most of the gear parts individually on eBay and usually NOS OMC brand if you look hard enough. There are some aftermarket kits as well, but the nos parts should give your lower unit a new life.
