    Default Marine Stereo suggestions....

Looking to update the stereo in the big boat.....has an existing Clarion head unit in the cabin and a wired remote on the console. 6 JBL speakers and existing amp.

Looking to update the stereo for Bluetooth capabilities...any suggestions?

Do I need to go back with a head unit and remote or will the small Fusion head unit be enough on the console itself? No desire to have ipod or CD inputs as all media will be transported via Bluetooth to the headunit...

Any suggestions for the new fangled electronically challenged?

If it is not exposed to elements, ie. mounted in a box or cabin, you dont need a "marine unit"

I went to bestbuy and bought a $50 alpine head unit with bluetooth capabilites and rolled. its in a flip front radio box on the pontoon.

The Alpine unit i had in the boat for 6 years before still works but it did not have bluetooth. "new" unit is now 5 years old and works fine.

    if it craps out.......$50.

It came originally with a "marine unit" installed. The only difference in it and a regular unit was it had a saran rap covering over the top of the metal behind the face to help condensation.

I picked up the west marine bluetooth/cd player/radio to put in my pathfinder. It sounds great with only two speakers.

Just bought a JL audio device just for this on my boat. It installs and is similar in size to a small gauge and will allow you to connect Bluetooth and change tracks etc. there are also similar items by different brands.

I have this in my boat. No complaints. Had it a year and half.

Depending on what electronics you have, I've seen the fusion stuff integrated so no need for remote.

I opted not to on mine being it was all in the console.

The only problem with Bluetooth is you have to control the menu from the device. Which means you have to have your phone or ipod out in the helm area to access. Get a unit with a USB input and you can control the menu from the stereo head unit and keep the device stowed out of the elements.

Note sure what your budget is but I installed a JL Media Master this year with 6 JL speakers, amp and 10" sub. Its been incredible and the head unit is zoned so i can control different speaker levels. I have 2 in the transom of my sea hunt for beach or tubing. Bring your checkbook.
