    Default September Birds

Teal season was hot and slow but I did get a photo I liked...

I decoyed a peregrine. He was a young bird but convinced enough that my eclipse bluewings were the real thing that he came back for a second pass giving me time to switch the gun and camera...

Found another falcon, a Merlin, that had caught a barn swallow. Merlin's aren't much bigger than barn swallows.

I also found a pretty rare bird for South Carolina, a Gray Kingbird. This guy was eating a bald-faced hornet.

Shame rail season isn't in September this season. My work schedule won't allow me to hunt them until the last weekend in October at the earliest.

I'll be in a pirogue Friday morning shooting marsh chickens. Looking forward to it.

Yep. I need to update some of my rail/gun photos since I got a 24mp camera. I'm planning an early October outing myself.

One thing that amazes me is that you could zoom in enough to recognize what the Kingbird was eating. Very cool.

    It's a 70-200mm f4 IS lens. It's kind'a short for birds, especially on a 10mp camera, but since I upgraded to a 24mp I can get a lot of digital zoom.

I keep the lens on the camera in a Pelican case.
