I don't work til later tonight so a buddy and I decided to go sit this morning. Two tracts, about 3 miles apart. We've been hunting this area for several years, run a bunch of cameras most of the year, and try to really pick the deer we want to shoot. I'd killed two this week already, so he sat the better stand and I went to one where we'd mostly seen does and a scrub buck or two. 0715 I hear one walking in from behind me to the left. Get the camera on, see the deer and forgot about the camera after that. Luckily, I managed to aim it somewhat in the direction he was walking. He stopped in some brush when I drew, and I ended up picking a spot between the branches and let it fly. I didn't get a pass through and after watching the video really thought I was too far high and forward. We let him sit for two hours before we slowly eased across the road where I saw him last. He was piled up 15 yards away and had run less than 60 yards. We've been watching this deer for at least 3 years, and he's been a shooter the entire time. Last year he had a split brow tine. We've never had him on camera where I killed him, and had him at the other stand last night at 9. We've seen him in a bachelor group several times in the summers, and he walked behind my buddy last year at less than 10 yards, but he's almost totally nocturnal once August hits. My best with a bow so far. 190lbs, 20" inside spread.
