Woman nearly throws away $50,000 drone found in her backyard

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) – When a Georgetown woman discovered a drone in her backyard, she asked her landscaper to throw it away.

Instead, the landscaper, Mickey Cloos, said he Googled the device, and discovered it's an advanced surveying drone worth $50,000. Now he wants to find its rightful owner.

“How many people in Georgetown do you think of lost a $50,000 drone?” Cloos asked in a Facebook message.

The Trimble UX5 drone doesn’t look like your average consumer drone – it bears a closer resemblance to a stealth fighter, and has an array of features for mapping and surveying professionals.

    Default Georgetown $50,000 drone ? Missing/found

Pretty easy to track the owner down via the company that sold the unit. Anyone spending that kinda coin would have registered it for warranty and it would be registered with the FAA.

If I spent that kind of money I would have a separate GPS device on it and Id be there before it hit the ground.

Wonder if an insurance claim has already been filed, and they have quit looking for it.

Yep. I am intrigued to find out the ending of this story. I talked to the guy earlier and he shuttered when trying to describe what the owner was trying to film......

There is no way that doesn't have some sort of Gps tracking. He must not have access to the area it landed. Did the finder report anything like shotgun damage?. MG

Of course it has GPS, that's half of it's purpose in life. Operator could've fucked up on his end and lost communication and therefore control of the drone. Serves him right for buying Trimble's proprietary shit.

Dude that found it should drag it down the street parade fashion while firing AK47 rounds in the air.

All he has to do is call Duncan Parnell. They are a Trimble representative for the charleston area .. The serial number is register to its owner through trimble. They track ownership of all they're proprietary equipment. In less then an 1/2 hour they all have the owners number for you or they ill contact "them" for you.
