    Default CP4.2 pump

So what's the experts opinions regarding the Bosch cp4.2 fuel pump?

Is it a poor design destined to fail and cause $10k in repairs, or just a bad rep?

Oh shit, tell me the Titan Cummins doesn't have this.

I think this late in the game they have the kinks worked out. That's my opinion of course. I personally wouldn't be scared of one. Run some Diesel Kleen periodically.

Damn they do have the CP4 in the 5.0 Cummins. The 6.7 uses CP3.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

CP is common rail high pressure fuel pump for Diesel engines. 3 and 4 or revisions. So basically the CP4 and CP4.2 are the latest high pressure fuel pumps made by Bosch. The CP3 is known for reliability and the CP4's are known to come apart and contaminate the entire fuel system causing in the upwards of $10k in repair at times.

Yeah talk about gut punch. knew the 6.7 had the cp3 and just assumed the 5.0 did as well.

Guess I'm going to get screwed on this one one way or another, sell/trade it and loose or keep it and keep an extra $10k sitting around.

I think more of the 4's were failing in 2011-2013ish error. I think they got their act together on them now. But that's not to say 2014 and up CP4's wouldn't fail.

And oddly enough they mostly fail on the Duramax platform. Ford hasn't had near the issues as GM with the CP4

How often do you recommend diesel kleen? I've been adding some here and there, no real schedule.

Does 2 stage fuel filter help, or pretty standard on others?

Duramax doesn't use a lift pump. Cp3 creates more vaccum to pull fuel. Add a fass and it will probably be ok. I've changed more on Ford's 6.7s. VR44 pumps on the 5.9s failed alot too

Stage two would hurt. If fass or air dog offer anything you could do that as well. I run diesel kleen at least every other fill up, but that's me. I also change my fuel filters every 10k miles max.

    Bringing this back up....

Any of you mechanics seen one go bad not due to contaminated fuel that did not ruin the rest of the fuel system?

Have been reading tons of forums and this is a very cloudy topic. Will they show signs of early failure before actually going out that can be caught?

All hypothetical provided owner never got bad fuel and changed filters on time.
