Took my son yesterday evening for our first hunt of the year. He has been plenty of times with me the last few years, but he just got serious about shooting one last year. Bad luck prevailed all last year and he never was able to seal the deal.
We moved this stand (16ft 2 man ladder) last Sunday before the storm and I told him it was his to hunt until he killed one. We slipped in around 6:15pm and got up in the stand and settled in. He did good as usual with being still and staying alert and around 7:00 we had a nice buck come into the field. He fed for just a minute and then left before getting close enough. About 10min later this one came in and walked across the back side of our food plot over to a little group of persimmon trees and started feeding. After about 15min of feeding, he turned and started out giving the boy a perfect broadside shot at 90yds. The little 7mm-08 hit exactly where he placed it and the rest is history.
He asked me before he shot if his heart was supposed to beat this fast and if his leg was supposed to shake as much as it was. I told him of course, that is what makes you want to keep doing it.
