    Default Little Mans First Buck

My youngest wanted to go sit yesterday evening after shot birds in the AM and cleaned up around the house. Headed out and I could tell he was tired, he still has some of that nap child left in him. Got in the stand and within 5 minutes he was out, within 20 this buck and 2 does came out in the beans. I just let him snooze, he was out 30 minutes, picked his head up and peaked out in the field, looked at me and said, that a buck? Sure is......After checking him out in the scope he said Dad, I want to shoot that buck, ok get ready and let him turn broadside. Took a little while waiting for him to turn broadside and slightly quartering away, in that time it was comical watching his breathing and shaking getting ready for the shot. Once the deer got right I reminded him squeeze, don't snatch the trigger. He squeezed off and the deer kicked and bolted to the wood line, we slipped down to where he entered the woods, no blood but I knew the hit was solid. I left him at the trail entrance and slipped in the woods and followed the stumble marks until I saw the buck piled up 45 yards in the woods. I called him in to help me look for blood and stood aside while he kept asking Dad are you sure I didn't miss? I don't see blood? He scanned the area and finally saw him piled up and was on cloud 9.......I was impressed with what the 85 grain SST's did to the deer inside, even though no exit which I figured may be the case with the low recoil Bullets, but I have some I'm about to reload for him.

Congratulations to both of you. I remember my first and my son's first like they were yesterday and that was 15 and 43 years ago. I bet you can't tell him nothing now. He will be a rock star at school Monday
