1988 a/c not supposed to work
Lines are cold going into the evap core? What is the pressures on a guage before you start ripping it apart. If that's the problem the system is contaminated from dryer/comp coming apart
... or the evaporator core could be plugged, etc?

No cold lines...not sure on low or high side pressures. I got a buddy coming to check in am....
Low side should be cold to touch and sweating. I'd check pressures to start. Also take a water hose and squirt water into the front with it running and see if it gets cold with water flowing over condenser. I bet you have a condenser full of dirt, grass, and debris. The debris isn't allowing condenser to dissipate heat.
Easy, cheap way to check it quick.
But with pressure reading we can see if system is going into a vacuum or a restriction.
