Any improvements with just a tune?
Put a catch can on it if he's family.
More fuel = more boost!!
He says he loves it.
I don't know how much real improvement there was, but he swears it's a whole 'nother animal.
I'm not sold on the catch can deal. I'm also not sold on pushing out oil changes past about 5k miles, either.
Check out the dyno graphs. The trans is also tuned. I run 89 octane performance/tow tune in my 2011 f150 5.0 I like his because he has tunes for when towing. Yes you can get a little more from a different tune but, you risk detonation problems if you start towing anything with it.

If a man is alone in the woods, says something, and a woman does not hear, is he still wrong?

Common sense is not a gift. It's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone else who doesn't have it.
Did you graduate school? If so you should be able to read. No matter what theory you believe, the fact of the matter is, the deposits on intake valves are caused by oil getting into the intake. Catch can separates any oil out of those fumes, so the oil stays in the catch can instead of going back into the intake manifold.
Oil going through your intercooler back into charge pipe then into intake is not good....

"This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." John 15:12
"Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord." Hebrews 12:14
I did on the 7.3 I had. It was a diy/homemade model but it basically did the same thing. Pipe from the crank case vent to the catch can, return pipe to intake pipe. It did the job and prevented all sorts of nastiness from entering the turbo and subsequent parts of the motor.
I still kick myself for selling that truck.
The right to bear arms is the last form of defense against tyranny.
The proof is right there. Oil gets into the intercooler, all up through charge/boost pipe into intake then gums up on top of the intake valves. Causes them to run like shit especially on cold start up. Your average person replaces plugs but it doesnt help. Turbo engines are direct injection therefore fuel is injected directly into combustion chamber. If it wasn't direct injection the fuel would spray over valves cleaning them.
Catch can catches oil
More fuel = more boost!!
Early ecoboost engines had a lot of problems with rough idle/misfiring
Ford since redesigned PCV system, so we'll see....
Or put a catch can on it and not worry.
Seems elementary to me.
More fuel = more boost!!
kRT , how do you clean the build up off the intake valves ? my truck has been stalling and skipping for a while now and took it to the dealership to get fixed. they said the coils looked fine but the boots on the coils need to be replaced and plugs as well. also the were going to clean the build up off to get it running better again all for around $700.00. what would it cost to replace the rack and pinion on the steering well?
I pull the intake, use a walnut bead blaster and a vacuum device. Look at the picture above.
More fuel = more boost!!
The PCV system isn't working like its suppose to, duh. I stated earlier it was redesigned.
Come by later for a beer and I'll explaid the difference in a diesel engine PCV system and a 3.5 liter Ford gas PCV system.
Maybe you'll understand.
The intake valves pictured above doesn't mean anything, just disregard.
I wouldn't do a catch can either
I rather clean the mess up after....it pays better
