Default What Is A Good Salt Water Cooler

A friend is looking for one of those big coolers (3' or 4') long like you see on game fishing boats. Any suggestions and experience with them and the best performance is welcome? He's retired and on a fixed income so he's already ruled out a Yeti. He said he'd have to remortgage the house to get one of those.

    Thanks y'all.

Gott and Igloo are...or were the most commonly used. And they are pretty cheap. If I were buying a bait cooler for a boat, I'd buy one of those.

Thanks, Fish. I'll let him know.

I got a 150 qt rubbermaid for $99 from Home Depot not too long ago. The handles are molded into the cooler so they wont break like every other cooler.

I bought two of these exact coolers at SAM's Club a few years back for $65/ea.

I wish I had bought every one they had.

I'm going to go against the grain here... First of all, a cooler 3-4' long ain't going to hold pelagics. That's for bottom fishing or drinks... That being said, if that's what he wants, then it's hard to beat the Coleman Xtreme at Walmart. I've yet to break a handle on one but I feel that I can't keep handles on my marine igloos. Unless you are going to spend top dollar, I think this is the most "bang for the buck". I think I have the 70qt.

It's not going to be light but might be cheaper if he has the supplies on hand. My buddy made a fish box out of the pink or blue insulation and glassed it. Works extremely well.

Your buddy can make one to fit exactly where he wants it and customize his lid, handles, and drain locations.
