Longer Video. Listen to the ammo going off.

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Funny but it ain't like the cowboy movies. That's just an urban legend that got started from those movies. When ammo cooks off it's an "uncontrolled explosion" and the casing just splits. The projectile doesn't go anywhere and if they did they would have almost zero velocity. The reason they work the way we want them to is because of a "controlled explosion". In a gun when the primer is hit the powder explodes, the walls of the casing can't expand (chamber pressure) so it's controlled. Physics says the rapidly expanding gases will take the path of least resistance. That path would be the seated bullet, the expanding gases force the projectile to go down a slightly smaller barrel than the projectile. Hence the rifling come into play by forcing the bullet to spin making it more stable/accurate.
I can't count the number of times I've thrown a handful of .22 and the occasional 12 gauge shell in the campfire. They pop but nothing goes flying out of the fire.

we have done the same many times- but we did have a reloaded 7 mag scream out of the fire one night- must have used too much crimp
As a kid I used to put 12 gauge shells in a tree fork and shoot the primer with my BB gun. Very few even un-crimped, those that did only partially un-crimped. On most of them the plastic and/or waxed paper side of the shell split.
SAAMI made this video about it for firemen.

I believe that's about what the house in Lancaster looked like when it blew up a few years ago. I was awake in my house which is close to twenty miles straight line and it felt like a huge thud hitting the house. At first I thought it was another earthquake but it knew it felt different because it was a single jolt. I believe people as far away as Camden could feel it.
A brick of .22s will most definitely shoot when in fire. May not be full velocity but fast enough to make the ricochet hum.
You're more likely to get hit by the brass than the bullet.
A house near me burned and the fire fighters let a dog die right inside the front door because they were scared to go near because of the ammo popping. Of course nobody knew for sure that the ammo was in a loaded gun.
