    Default rear axle seal

I had the rear axle seal replaced on my truck 01 2500hd. About a week later I woke up to a puddle of oil under my tire so I took it back to them for a redo. That was about 3 weeks ago. Woke up this morning to another puddle under the tire.

What gives. Why isn't this thing sealing off and it seams sporadic. Meaning I drove it around today and it's not leaking now.

Bearing cut a groove in the axle, could be housing bent, or just simply don't know wtf the doing. Could be over full also

They are reputable so I have to assume they know what they doing. Let's go with over full for the moment. Anything I need to do at the moment or just let it leak out? If it was a groove or bent wouldn't they have seen that? Wouldn't it be leaking all the time?

Inner and outer. I don't think the bearing was replaced. Id have to check the paper work for varification but I don't believe so.

Take it back to them. A groove is for sure to be seen around the axle. Usually a bearing will fail and cause seal to fail. I dunno why they wouldn't change bearing anyhow due to all the shit to take apart and that's the last step.

If it is a grove...is there a fix?

They make a offset bearing. But I'd put axles in it aslong as tubing isn't bad

Odd that they didn't replace the bearing as well. Take it back to them, I'm sure they will make it right.

May want to get rid of that truck. Transmission noise and now rearend issues. Probably wish you had the old dodge back.

I looked...the paper doesn't saying anything about the bearings. It just says axle seals. I'm not sure if it would say anything about the bearings if that was standard operating procedures (to change the bearing with seal).

It's a good truck. Just has a couple of issues to work through. I halfway knew that when I bought a 16 year old truck. I pulled the big boat with the truck last week without a problem. Transmission still in tact.

And I miss the old doge every day. The guy that bought it from me sent me a text a few weeks ago of the freshly rebuilt motor. Said it ended up having a crack piston.

No. It just says seals as work. There are no parts listed.

I stopped by the shop today. He said that they did not replace the bearings. He said when I brought it back the first time that he (shop owner) redid it himself just to make sure. He said he went back with OEM seal as well. He said everything behind the was dry, but he could obviously tell something had been leaking. He checked for a grove and for other things. Said everything checked out. He's wondering if I have a crack in the hub assembly. What do you think about that giving the new information?
