I call BS on most of the counterfeit talk. I'm sure there are some counterfeit ones out there. But non certified doesn't mean counterfeit.

Is there any good way to test them before I put them on my kids and tell them to look at the sun? I trust that mine are legit but I'd like to test if at all possible.
I take an PLB in the shower with me. Can't ever be too safe.

Im not reading the whole article. But I did see they were recalled not because they don't work. But because they can't guarantee that they will be effective.

IE. They aren't certified. And my comment wasn't aimed at you. Counterfeit glasses are all the rage in the news. Schools, Hospitals, and others are too afraid to give away glasses because they are "counterfeit".

Meanwhile people can't find glasses and we are worried about eclipse glasses that don't have a certification on them.

Put them on and look at the sun. If you start seeing spots the next day, they didn't work.

I saw some at Lowe's a few weeks back. But I think most places are sold out by this point.

Greenwood State Park had them a couple of days ago. That's a pretty decent haul for you though

I have about 75 pairs in my top middle drawer in my office in Greenville if that helps. Probably too far to drive though

Your opinion is all well and good, but if someone uses glasses that are questionable and ended up with vision problems, up to and including getting blinded, would it be worth it to be wrong? Why take the risk?

For those planning to use a welder's shield, the last I read was that a level 15 was required. Mine only go to 13, but I have a pair of level 5 brazing glasses I guess I could wear underneath the shield. At least that's the plan if a pair of glasses aren't dropped off like they're supposed to be.

Standard lens is a #10. A #14 is required to SAFELY stare at the sun.

TD bank in charleston has been giving them out. You may drive into Augusta and check there.
