Stone Mountain Park is a Confederate Memorial. Many folks of all races visit. It's a dang nice, very popular place. We don't go there anymore for several reasons. The historical aspects are not one of them.
Know this, IF there were attempts made to destroy the carving, it would likely get violent quickly. People died there merely carving the stone.. I do recall some protests there by certain groups back in the day. DKPD and the State Patrol quashed them with force.

Memories for me - running road races there - 5K , 10K, 15 K... Easter sunrise services on top of the rock, Sitting on the lawn and watching the Laser Show( which is all about the history of the War and Park - with music (including Dixie) , taking a train ride with both my girls when they were little, parking with Mary Ellen Moffit in the back of her 280Z , picnics, fishing in the lake, golf tournaments, nights spent with various harlots at the Evergreen Hotel.... ah, a nice trip down memory lane.
