Default Vizo TV - No TV Tuner

Upgraded to a new Vizo recently and have also cut the cord. I've got the Amazon Fire TV and have learned in this process that the new Vizio TV's don't have an internal TV Tuner.

The Fire TV is jailbroken but it's a pain for sourcing local TV through it or atleast I haven't found a quick/easy way to get what I am looking for.

Nonetheless, I have an antenna in the attic that I may use from the previous owner, or I may add a new antenna. I need to look into getting a TV tuner or other option if there is one available for picking up the local channels.

Who has had experience with TV Tuners and could recommend one? I recently fished cables from a built in cabinet to the TV and only have a spare hdmi running between them.

My thinking is coax antenna signal into the tv tuner and hdmi output to the TV. I stumbled across the hdhomerun device today, but I'm not 100% if it's worth the money.

What have the cord cutters on here been doing?

So your tv doesn't have a coax connection on the back/side of it?

That's reason I didn't buy Vizio on last purchase. Almost made that mistake.

you can control with phone supposedly but when I get home I put my phone up

I use flat panel external TV antennae for my TVs. Bought one at radio shak and one at Lowes. No discernible difference. Both feed into signal amplifier then to TV via coax. The powered amplifier did seem to improve reception. In Columbia I get ABC, CBS, NBC, ETV, MyCW, Fox and Ion reliably. Occasionally I'll get some preacher out of Augusta too.

I'm not an expert, but the old antenna in your attic may not work if it is not digital.

So you have a glorified computer monitor.

Flat screens are cheap and easy. I'd take that thing back and get something that has a tv input and simplify this process.

Haha, don't make me think about the time/money invested in this one already.

65" and nah, I'll pass. It's got smart cast and the fire tv hooked to it. I'll have local channels on it for shortly for less than $50.

Still beats the hell out of the Comcast bill we used to have and I haven't missed it at all. AT&T fiber is the tits and is much cheaper, too.

That's what I'm wanting is fiber and then I'll probably cut the cord.

Never heard of a TV with no coax input.

Once you figure out the Firestick, you'll quickly wanna ditch it and get an H96 box.

To hell with a lagging-ass firestick. (Put iStream on your stick if you have not already.)

Sling TV streams all the local channels. I think Hulu just added this also.

Or this one from Walmart. It's got a HDMI out.

I've got the Fire TV instead of the stick and have it hard wired. It's pretty snappy. I'll look into iStream.

My whole point with cutting the cord was to have as few subscriptions as possible. Netflix and an Amazon account give me most of the things I want/need. I do need to find a friend to get a hbo/espn log in from...

Something of the like was my plan.

Anyone have experience with the small indoor antennas? Should I pony up a few more dollars and throw a new digital antenna in the attic and call it a day?
