    Default Countertop ice maker

The fridge can't keep up with my crowd so I've been thinking about one of these. I would like one that keeps ice frozen, has a water line hookup and no preference on a drain or not. Anyone got one? Pros/cons?

Got one of these last year for camp. It's great.

Tim, too big. Unless you willing to part with it cheap.

Steelin', does it have a water line hook up?

No water line. It has a reservoir you have to fill up.

But the bin melts back into the reservoir. So it recycles itself

That sounds like it could easily become a bacterial cesspool.

SaltMuck - do you have a chest freezer you could install a traditional ice maker in, and use a Rubbermaid bin to collect the ice?

We only use it on weekends. Drain out as part of our camp shut down protocol. And typically only during duck season. And the ice only goes in likker drinks.

USMC I knew you'd be along shortly.

I have an upright freezer in the room the ice maker will reside in.

So you going to buy a icemaker and install in chest freezer?

You talking an ice maker out of a fridge-freezer? Got me thinking now. I assume laying a water line and power cord across the door sill?

    I mean a chest freeer.

Drill a hole through the metal casing. Push (or melt) through the foam. Then through the plastic interior lining.

Mount the solenoid on the outside, and just run the lines like you would to a traditional upright fridge/freezer ice maker.

If you go that route, get water valve for icemaker off old unit and wire it accordingly. Drill hole through back of freezer and install a rubber grommets for water and power . Bam you got ice.

This $60 maker and a $15 valve looks like the way to go. I'm impressed fellas, as always.

This is what i did with my garage fridge. Removed some racks and put a tub in there and let it keep dumping.

My keggerator fridge is in the garage and has a freezer with an icemaker. I dont have water hookup in the garage so I took one of my homebrew 5 gallon kegs, filled it with water and pressurized with air and hooked that up to the icemaker.
