Inside Rust in 55 Gallon Feeder

I'm making a corn feeder out of a 55 gallon steel drum.

The inside of the drum has surface rust. Is this an issue? i.e. will it mess up the taste of the corn?

Should I paint the inside or just roll with it as is?

I would just roll with it. The rust flavor will keep the Nematodes away.

I did hesitate in putting this question our there but how am I supposed to know if I don't ask? I don't want to go through the trouble of building a feeder only to have it not work.

The rust will cause your deer to need multiple tetanus shots......soak that barrel in some fermented onion juice and scrub with pennies, barrel sanitized.

Yes, terrible.....no one wants rust flavored corn.
