    That's exactly right.

You ever seen Moultrie? Not too many islands. A couple in Russellville, Koon, and the old levy around the Hatchery are about it. Definitely none anywhere near the locks. If you are in the middle and a storm comes up, you are SOL! Ever noticed how NOAA Weather Radio has a report for just Lake Moultrie?

Never been through the locks but looks like there are two major coves just on the outside.

Jason you are correct, boater could/should have pulled into cove behind Short Stay. To run to Pinopolis cove would have been dead into teeth of storm for 1/2 mile or so. Wasn't on boat, but from what I can put together, boat driver was committed to getting into locks and when that plan fell through he was SOL. The direction the wind was blowing had 8 miles of water pushing into locks/dam. That pontoon was just a big kite at the mercy of a storm.

Here is a short video from inside the locks. Keep in mind the water on the outside is the same level as the inside. About 8' to the top of the doors. You will see the pontoon almost getting washed over the top.

If you were not driving that boat I'm not sure anyone can comment on what they would do.

But I'm with Coastal and Santtee11. That lake can go from glass to a ocean in a hurry. An the wild thing is half of the lake can be a torrent rampaging mess an the other half can be little more than a few chops.

Sunday you did not want to be on Marion. It looked like Zeus was throwing lightning bolts down.
    Yup, he's crazy...

like a fox. The dude may be coming in a little too hard and crazy but 90% of everything he says is correct.

Sort of like Toof. But way smarter.

There was enough room in the lock for another boat.

Read above. There was room until the boat in front of him got turned sideways and they had to close the loc
