Default Quote taken from the meeting minutes online at scdnr

Mr. Hinson made a motion that the dove regulations be approved as recommended by staff and approved by the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Advisory Committee with the daily bag limit of 15. Mr. McFadden seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously.

Does this mean we will go back to 15 bird or still at 12?

Interesting seeing the board going on record unanimously supporting the Conservation Bank while certain staff members are doing everything in their power to undermine the bank.

Also interesting to see that SCDNR feels itself well funded enough to be sending $30,000 to a foreign country for conservation efforts there.

Don't get me wrong, I am cool with it. I go to that country to kill ducks. I love that we finally have money to ship abroad. Last time I cared to pay attention to what DNR was doing, several years ago, they were crying like it was the end of the world because their budget had been slashed to pre 1990 levels...

My assumption (based on basically nothing than 1 line in the minutes) is that they were thinking, by putting money in north of us on the same flyway, we benefit from this. Just curious as to what your thoughts are on that (if that assumption is even valid). Do you think that this would have any impact on us, or just a pissing away of money?

I will assume somebody on the Board or the Advisory board will have some nice hunts in the providence that receives the money. A trip up to see the work done and enjoy a hunt or 2.

That 30k probably became 210k when matching funds kicked in, assuming DUC has the same access to funding that DU has. I could not agree more that money spent in the breeding grounds is money well spent. Glad to see DNR has the money to spend...

This money couldn't have been given away by a nicer DNR

I'm not reading the article. What country did they send money to?

I'm gonna take a stab and say everyone that voted to give 30k to DU Canada will be on multiple Canada hunting trips. We should have an audit for that to see who's on the take.

Yeah, I'm with you... That's what I was thinking. Sounds like a reasonable strategy as long as it produces results (and especially if it takes advantage of a money multiplier effect as you suggest it may). Some people get caught up on the process, but in the end, results are what matters. If this "investment" yields more natural resources for SC, then it might be money well spent. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a lot of cash and not like they are betting the farm on it. That being said, quantifying results for something like this is very hard to do\prove, so some level of subjectivity and common sense are required.
