whats the point of fishing braid with a leader? I certainly can understand the pound test of the braid being higher and the leader maybe for shy fish....but what am I trying to prove? I'd rather fish straight mono and not deal with all that terminal tackle.

wish I could catch some trout like that. we caught a few in this area when I was there last. just paddling with the wind and trolling a deep crankbait. I have seen stuff for making that bait dive to 60ft or more but, again, I dont know if I want to deal with lugging around 4oz weights in my tackle box.

I almost always fish braid with a leader . Line sinks faster and there isn't nearly as much stretch in the your line when you set the hook. This results in less missed fish. As far as those Yankee fish though I have no idea and would be out of my element.

The mono vs braid thing is simple. I dont often tie leaders on braid. I would just fish straight mono. I am trying to understand the benefit....and i dont think its pound test (bc the leader will break when it wants to) and its not stretch bc thats the best part of braid (lack of). So, griffin is an ass and yes, just the knot....

One benefit of braid with a leader is if you get hung and you have to break off, you only break off a few feet of line.
