This pic was from 1979. We use to wade a small swamp and shoot moccasins with .22LR pistols. The one stretched out on the board was a grown snake that we tracked thru a mudflat for about 60 yards before we shot it.

I still like to mess with them when I get a chance. Here's a pretty nice King Snake I caught that swam across the cove a few weeks ago.

Pretty badass to wade around killin snakes in your tighty whiteys. Esp if you do everything while smoking a cigarette hands free.
I have been seeing a good many garter and black snakes in/around my yard. Twice I suspect a female has entered an area (One shows up and others are following not far behind) and the males are following behind.
I removed 2 garter snakes from my garage the other night when they just came slithering by the workbench which was a bit startling to say the least. Numbers 3-5 weren't as lucky. I could tolerate 2, but once I was sufficiently outnumbered in my house it went to straight eradication w the weed eater.

Thats racist
Menthol smokers and snakes don't mix
Except on Sundays in Appalachia.
I don't need my name in the marquee lights....
See my original post in this thread. Today my son and grandson encountered, and killed, three cottonmouths in the very spot where my dog was struck several months ago. One was nearly 4' long and the others were about 3' long. This time there was a helpful little .410 available to do the work.
Maybe I was wrong about the original snakes being copperheads. Maybe none of these three was the one that bit my dog. But somehow I feel that a little righteous justice was dispensed today.

How do you confuse a copperhead for a water moccasin?
Or did you just know it was posionous because of the swelling?
I saw the confrontation from a distance and didn't make an ID. The swelling made it obvious it was a poisonous hit. The vet suggested copperhead.
