    Default Am I Crazy?

Its long, so hang with me.....

My younger stepbrother switched from being an electrician superintendent to selling insurance. He is one of those people that will never answer the phone nor return calls, unless he is going to benefit from it. So he gets going and then starts calling around to all of the family trying to sell insurance. He text me one day wanting to sell me some insurance and I told him I don't need any, nor do I mix family and business. Around that time, my mothers starts in about how cheap the policies are and that I should really look into it. I tell her no, b/c I don't mix family with business, I've been with the same agent for 10 yrs, my agent will answer the phone, yoda yoda yoda.

Around the same time, he is working on a deal with my mothers business and they end up going with some policy. To help him meet his "goal" he needed a few more people, so my mother takes out a whole life policy on my two girls and lumps it into the group. She doesn't ask if its ok or anything. So I had already told him no and he wrote them in anyway and I had already told her no and she did it anyway. When I found out, I got alittle ill but I thought maybe I was over reacting. I asked my mom for the paperwork about 3 weeks ago and never received it. I asked my stepbrother for the paper work 2 weeks ago and he said he would send it over right away.

So last night I called him again and told him to cancel the policy, citing the lack of communication, no paperwork, business/family, I had already told him no, yoda yoda yoda. He starts in with its a good deal, I haven't had time to get the paperwork, I'll lose my bonus, its not open enrollment and I can't remove them, etc. He asked if he could pay the premiums for a year, just to get the bonus. I told him to cancel it and then I get a text about 20 mins later saying the paperwork wasn't completed yet and they have been removed.

I'm alittle concerned that he will just keep them on the policy and just pay it w/o my knowledge.

Am I crazy for thinking this whole deal seems alittle fishy?
I take an PLB in the shower with me. Can't ever be too safe.

Whats it like to live w/o the Internet? Not bad, I get photos of your mom thought the mail....

Well #1 it's illegal for him to pay the premium as an agent and he is going to fail miserably if he is trying to sell on price. The people that buy insurance on price alone will leave you in a heart beat. You are being smart and I'd stay far away.

I don't think you are & I'm an agent. Ask him if he's had his ethics course yet & what it would say about this. All you need to know about it is when he stated, "I'll lose my bonus".

I'm betting he wasn't a very good electrician either
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right

Years back in the 90's I worked for Farm Bureau...was consistently one of the top five P&C producers in the state. The bosses don't care about P&C. "What are your life numbers looking like?". I left a very lucrative job because of all the shady crap that went on with regards to the life insurance side. People wrote policies on family members every quarter, paid for them for 90-120 days and cancelled them. Lies about discounts on auto insurance and homeowners that were only available if you also wrote a life policy. I've never been in the car sales business but I can't imagine it being any worse than the life insurance business.

To this day, I will not do business with Farm Bureau for the mere fact that the entire hierarchy supported that culture. The powers that be encouraged this and even suggested ways to pull the wool over people's eyes. Why?? Because that's how they were bonused....

Life policies can help people through difficult times but P&C helps put people's lives back together when tragedy strikes. A company that under values that is doing it wrong, could be why Farm Bureau's market share in the state is shrinking.

So how do I go about making sure my girls have been removed from the policy? I can't even get the paperwork. If I call the company, will I be able to find out, since the policy is through my moms business and I never signed anything?

Seems like you'd have to hand over the kids SSN's for a life insurance policy?? Don't look for them and tell your bonus brother it ain't happening.

There is a reason that the insurance sales profession, just like the real estate sales profession is so hated. There are very few barriers to entry. That is bidness 101. Learn and make yourself good at something that is hard to get into. At SC they say it in Spanish and call it international bidness. These two fields are very easy to get into.

This means that every lazy human in the way rod can get into these professions, clip on a tie, and their mother is immediately proud of them. These are also products/services that, for the most part, people have to have. This makes consumers feel trapped by them. There are tons of awful agents in both fields, and the good ones suffer from their poor reputation. However, we also benefit from their laziness, desire to get something for nothing, and inability to handle a deal.

This dude will hopefully go broke being an idiot before he ends up in jail.

Call the company. May be a little stressful as you are not the owner I assume but after informing them who you are & giving some personal info on the kids, you should be able to get the info. Does he have a local office? If so, start there.
