    Default Need Opinions/Advise

So, in the river today, up near Dunes, we hit something under the water. It chipped the skeg. This is on a 150 4-stroke Yamaha, if that makes any difference. Anyway, what should I do...round it off, have it looked at and fixed, or get a stainless skeg guard and go on about my business. Right now, I'm thinking I'm just gonna throw a stainless skeg guard on it and call it good. What say yall??

It'll run just like it is.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I wouldn't do a thing. Have one of mine broken as well after the boat was lent to a family member. Hasn't changed performance at all.

This. You should be able to get two more good hits/chips before you need the guard

If it doesn't affect the way it runs/handles I'd let it be. That being said, I run a stainless panther skeg guard on my 60, but I run Lake Marion predominantly so it's kinda different.

Yeah, it seemed to run fine afterwards. I just figured I should put a skeg guard on it to protect it from further damage.

And, for the record, there was nothing visible, before or after impact. Don't know what it was.

Are we still talking about the "submerged log"?

Mine is worse than that and the prop looks like it was rolled back with pliers...runs just fine. Other than aesthetics, does hurt a damn thing.

I would check the prop shaft with a set of calipers to make sure you didn't tweak it.

Why do I have a suspicion your teeth are cared for in a similar manner?

Cause a bent up prop blade isn't an issue at all...

The biggest reason for the skeg is to protect the prop and the drive shaft not to help it "run better". I'd find a skeg guard of some sort.
