2017 was a great year! I had the chance to complete a Single Season Slam, Hunt in 5 states, and hunt with a bunch of new folks, which is also one of my favorite things about turkey hunting. I killed 7 birds, watched 11 die, and called up 14 for myself or others. I also had the chance to take my boys hunting more this year, which was a blast as they are 6 and 8, and really getting into it. I also killed my first double beard and first 20ga bird.
The season started in S. Florida March 4, hunting with a couple of buddies in some orange groves (Thanks to TrkyKilr for having that baby boy early and NOT being able to go on a previously booked opening weekend hunt). I killed opening morning on what was a crazy trip, too much to detail here.
Then I was able to kick off the SC season with a great opening day gobbler and 2 more quickly to limit out as of April 2:
North Carolina:
And then finished up out west in Idaho and Oregon on public land:
Oregon Rio Grande Turkey
Wild Elk as far as the eye could see on WMA Land
Idaho Merriams
Our cabin for the week: no cell service, 77 miles to the nearest gas station or grocery store. It was awesome
Temps ranged from 25 and snowing to 80 and sunny while there
Great trip and great fun-hate to see the season end, but glad to get back into the regular routine of life again also.
