    Default Tampa fishing guide recommendation?

Headed to tampa next week for work, may have a few hours to spare. Any of yall used/recommend a guide for tarpon in the area?

Still a little early for Tarpon there. If you had time for a 2 hour drive south you would be right at the front end of Boca Grande season. I have begun seeing a few in Charlotte Harbor and we are always several weeks ahead of Tampa fishery.

But if you don't have the time, I don't think you would be wasting your time giving it a go. Unfortunately the best guides out of Tampa are fishing my area or keys until late May.

They were definitely catching some tarpon in Boca Grande last week.

    Dawhoo summarized it pretty well.

There's still plenty of good fishing right now though, don't overlook snook.

We have fished with a guy called "Sumo Time" out of Anna Maria. He was great. Wore out the snook. Real big dude, hence the name.

When I went to Mexico, they said it was too early for the sailfish. I had done my homework on the internet before hand as well and read the same thing, so I declined the trip. My buddies were hard headed and determined to go. They caught 21 sails and 2 wahoo.

    Default Tampa fishing guide recommendation?

Working out the details but talking to a guy nitro recommended and may go next thursday. Seems like he knows whats up. Been fishing the area for 20 years. He said the tarpon havent started "running" but there are fish there. This will be the first time I have ever paid a guide to fish or do anything for that matter. Keep yall posted!

Just got back from work/fishing trip. I went w a guide nitro recommended and he didn't disappoint. Spent the first 3-4 hours trying for a tarpon but no luck. There were a half dozen boats in the vicinity and no one was hooking up. Guide said we should probably hang it up and look for something else. We went to a nearby flat and very quickly got on the snook. Probably caught 20 or so in an hour or two. All around 20" or so. My first snook so it was a cool experience. I did catch one small snook otf at the marina on my own the day before but with the guide I fished spinning tackle and live bait. Thanks Nitro for the recommendation! I may try to get back down in June and try it again.
