Default What are they trying to catch?

Turkey hunting in the SNF and came across 4 Laundry baskets. They were staked down had wire screen over the top. Anyone know what they are trying to catch?

They may be protecting the vegetation to compare it to unprotected to assess how much it is getting browsed by wildlife.

Venus fly traps! Endangered species. Be careful, 10,000 fine for tampering with baskets.

They are right side up solid bottom down. Could not of been there long, the forest floor has been burned not more than a month. Sides are open with large slots. Plastic laundry baskets, with fine wire screen covering the top in and oak grove staked down.

They also have purple metal traps hanging from trees for Emerald Ash Borer beetles, I think.

it is whats known as a curiosity trap.
some kind of viral internet crap, designed to draw inquiry and get hidden camera photos of curious "dupes" to post online.

you didnt look into the camera did you?
