Went back to a spot I have tried a few times in the morning with no success. I can always hear them gobbling a few hundred yards across the creek, but get no response in the mornings. Set up around 5:30pm yesterday afternoon and did some soft calling, then settled in. A few minutes into a pretty good tree trunk nap, they started gobbling right across the ridge in front of me, probably 75 yards away. I give a couple quiet clucks and get ready. One gobbling his head off behind me over my right shoulder, and three coming in to my hen decoy in front. At 45 yards, they get antsy and I decide that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and take the close one. All in all, a pretty good day.
