    Default Sunflower problem

I planted my dove field on April 8th this year. They are coming up fine and are about 3 to 4 inches tall. My question is for the second year in a row I have something pulling up the plants and leaving them beside the hole they pulled the plant out of. The plants are not being ate. I have an electric fence around field with no sign of a deer or turkey track. Could be crows doing this? Just getting aggravated. I lost 60% of my sunflowers to this last year. Any help will be appreciated.

Most likely crows. I'd think you'd see turkey tracks if they were the culprit. Seen crows do it to sunflowers and corn a lot when it first sprouts. We just put in 8 acres of corn and sunflowers today. Crow watch starts tomorrow.

I've watched turkeys do it, not for long though. They went by row pulling them up.

Thanks for the input. I've been planting this field in sunflowers for the 6th or 7th year in a row and never had this problem until last year. Is there anything to help keep them out of the field besides killing them? It's hard to go to farm everyday due to family and work.

Whenever I used to have turkeys eating all of my corn before the hogs could get to it I used the plastic owls. They worked great. I was sitting in the stand one evening and as soon as the feeder went off I had about 15 turkeys come running to it. As soon as the first turkey seen the owl sitting on a stump beside the feeder it was like they hit a brick wall. They all jammed the breaks then turned and hauled ass. Never had a problem with them eating my corn as long as the Owl was there.

I've heard about people doing this with crows, but crows are smarter so you have to move the owls around every few days.

Make sure they are dead an not wounded. You will get more coming to the wounded one if not.
