Does snow have any affect on peach blossoms?
It's more the temp peaches are pretty much toast. I worked for a peach farmer in ridge spring for 10 years (Dixie belle). Not only has the frost done damage but peach trees need 1000 chilling ours during the Winter. By mosts calculations we did not even get half that.
Thanks for the info banded.....get ready boys, fruit gonna be high as giraffe pussy this year!
And calling for lows in the mid 20's up this way a few nights this week. Fruit trees will get hit hard.

Snowing in northern Kershaw/Fairfield county.
Those smudge pots won't do much to help . Turning on the ground level irrigation will do more.. If the temps last more than 48 - 72 hours at this stage of bloom, it will impact production..

Just Damn.
They've been running wind machines and burning hay bales in the orchards a good bit in McBee recently. That seems to get them through the 30-32 degree nights, but I'm not sure there's anything they can do for the lows coming this week.
Snowing pretty good here in Conway.

There's also at least one Hail Cannon in an orchard in McBee.
It was invented by a farmer in the 1800s as a way to keep hail from destroying grapes in the vineyards in Europe. Supposedly it produces a shockwave that would keep water molecules from joining together and forming hail in the clouds. Although there is no science behind it they still sell them today. They used black powder charges originally. The modern ones use acetylene and oxygen.

Y'all leave Mcbee outta this.

I'm hoping the peach crop withstands this weather.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night will be very tough to make it through. Prolonged temps in the 20s are hard to overcome.
