Yes it's algae. Charo is a female celebrity from Mexico that looks shakira and hulk hogan mixed. In school I had a hard time memorizing things so I would sing little songs such as "Algae is green and slimy but charo is a Mexican celebrity...." -sung to the tune of silent night

Grass carp only eat rooted vegetation. Algae isn't on their diet. Talapia eat algae.

Fertilizer or a coloring agent will diminish light penetration and make it harder for algae to bloom. If you're in the Lowcountry, PM me and I'll give you the contact info for a good pond biologist. I've been able to keep things right in my pond with nothing but regular applications of fertilizer.

Small applications of granular copper sulfate will take out that algae. Put a pound or so in a sock, hang it off the back of the boat and drive thru the pond until the sock is empty. Repeat weekly until clear and implement a good pond fertilization program.

Ride to Aiken Carolina Eastern or Southern States in Johnston and pick up that copper sulfate. Use the sock and boat or a on a small pond you could sling it from the bank.

Mix up the copper fines (about 15lbs) in a 5 gallon bucket then pour into back pack. Spray edges out to about 10ft. The trick is don't kill it all at once or you will have a fish kill. Spray it monthly using that prescription till it's gone.

I would definitely be careful of this with a pond that size.
