Lots of people are 'scratching dirt' but are any of you real farmers planting corn yet? Our impoundment field is in good shape and the one-month weather outlook is good. It's tempting to plant early.

That the Tiger's roar may echo.....
Heard of people planting 10 days ago around kings tree, they may lose it tonight .
The concern isn't right now it is in 30 days when the corn is up and the growing point is exposed

If you planting for wildlife, the later the better. Frost and cold weather is still possible around Easter.
Not yet. Last week of March for me. People have short memories of cold and freezing temps. Late Easter and full moon in April have me thinking that the cold isn't finished. Unless I had 5000 acres or more to get across with one planter then I wouldn't be in a rush. Pro tip: replanting sucks!
U serious Clark?
Easy young grasshoppers. Don't get ahead of yourself. Its still a little early. You've got PLENTY of time.
So are you planting corn yet? The long range forecast looks good for temps....at least in the coastal plain.

Planters have been rolling in a few places around me but most are staying put. You are doing that plant no favors dropping it in this cold soil. The stands from the corn in the ground right now will look as rough as SC roads.

My in laws started planting Feb 23rd, and thought they were finished a couple weeks ago. They will be replanting the middle of next week.

Soil temps need to warm up first!

Assuming the long-range weather forecast looks okay (which I think it does now), what 4-inch soil temperature do you want? The 3-day average in our field is 52 F.

I've made better corn planted in may than corn planted in early
April. Don't worry so much about getting a head start. Droughts prob gonna ruin it either way.
Couldn't wait any longer, so we planted yesterday. Anybody else starting this week?
That the Tiger's roar may echo.....
I'll start this week. I'm actually holding off a bit longer now hoping for some rain. I don't have enough moisture in some places.
U serious Clark?
