I have tried lacrosse lace ups, lacrosse rubber boots and chippewa boots. The main reason I went with a pair of Russell boots was due to the fit. I have a very wide foot, 6 EE so finding a boot that fits comfortably is hard. In order to get the width I would have to go up a size or 2 which would cause the boot to flop on my heal. After a bit of walking, it would become annoying. The lacrosse lace-ups weren't bad but I swear if I walked thru the grass my feet would get wet. I know $550 is a lot of coin to drop on a shoe, but as much as I walk in the woods chasing deer or turkey, I choose to put my money in my shoes to keep them from hurting. To hell with walking that much and have your feet hurting at the end of the day. Just my 2 cents worth.

I was in clothing world last week looking at the Chippewa's. I could be wrong but their price was almost a 100 less than advertised price online. Ive got a pair of the pull on's Ive worn for almost 10 yrs, havent had an issue and can slip in and out of pretty easily, but agree they take a little bit of time to break in. I was thinking about switching it up to the ones with the zipper. The proghorn seem a bit thick to slip pants over and agree that laces can be a pain.

I had a pair of chippewas. they hurt my feet so bad I gave them away. Ive got an old pair of rockys that I wish id bought 10 pair of. Most comfortable boot ive ever worn. They have about had it though and I might have to try those sharptails

Double check me, but I don't believe the zippered Chippewas are waterproof, if that's important to you.

I gave up on Rocky boots years ago, for principle if nothing else. I suppose I'd try them if I couldn't find anything else. The same goes for Wolverine... two pair of insulated, waterproof, hunting boots and neither one was ever waterproof... and then the soles fell apart after a few years. Rocky soles seem to do the same thing, i.e., they last for 5-8 years and crumble apart. Hell, I've had Timberland boots with Vibram soles that were still in decent condition after almost 25 years. I finally gave them away because they were a little snug.

I'd call 5-8 years on a pair of boots a success.

I'd agree if they were worn a lot. In the case of of the Wolverines, they leaked the first year and were replaced. The new ones were used on cold weather only, and stored inside, so there was no weathering or UV involved, but the soles crumbled up on those also. I was generous in saying 5-8 on the Rockys.

My Danner Sharptails are probably 7-8 years old right now and probably have several more years in them.

The danners are good but I typically only get a year out of any of my hunting boots. Hog hunting we are in the mud and water allot and it destroys the leather.

No question. Your activities have got to be murder on your gear, but at least you're having a ball doing it!
