Time to shop for a new dishwasher.
Other than looking for one that isn't loud what else do I need to look for? Specific brands?

Adjustable tines, up/down adjustment for top basket, ball bearing gliders on top rack. Heated dry option.
I'd shop KitchenAid with MSRP $800+.

The best and absolute quietest dishwashers on the market.
PS - they do have a builder grade for $500 or so. Stay away from that.

Fisher & Paykel dual drawer. Bosch makes good equipment too. Some of the GE Cafe/Monogram lines are decent. Kitchenaide, Kenmore and Samsung also have good units.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I put in a Kitchenaid this week. Had great reviews and the features my wife was looking for including a heating element for drying. Runs super quiet at 46 db or some such. The 15 year old one we replaced sounded like a rock tumbler. Haven't run a load of dishes yet.
Probably cheaper to buy the current wife a dozen roses every week than going out trying to find a new wife. What's that saying cheaper to keep her.
Me personally I prefer blondes, but it never hurts to find one that can make a good sammich and was the dishes without making any noise.

Another fine choice in quality and quietness but I could not get use to the dual drawer stuff. It'd be nice for a young couple but if you've got kids and/or a growing family, you'll rarely get your money's worth out of a dual drawer because you'll likely be running full loads.

Divorce is tough on kids. Worry about them right now.
But since you asked, I've always been partial to white dishwashers
Get one with small feet so she can stand closer to the sink.
I have two boys age 9 and 6, they can make a ton of dishes dirty. Not to mention we cook a lot at home. I can get as much in the top drawer as most single door dishwashers can do in the entire unit. It's good for running small or large loads or separating out pots and pans from breakables. It's all what you want but, we'll never go back to the single unit again.

keep your eye on the scratch and dent appliances at Lowes and Home depot, you may find a hell of a deal.
I bought a $1000 refrigerator from Lowes a few weeks ago for $380.. It was never plugged in, still had all the packing tape on the drawers, etc.
The original buyer returned it with a 2" scratch on the top corner of the freezer door.

If one wants the one with the least room (2" less depth than everyone else), no heated dry, and no hard food disposal, Bosch is a wonderful idea.
I sold 'em for 14 years. It always amused me when someone bought a Bosch from someone else other than me. It often got returned because 1 (or all 3) of the above facts were not pointed out.
I will say, Bosch now has a few models with heated drug but IIRC, you'll pay dearly for them.

Heated dryers fuck up all the cool whip bowls, and plastic mayonnaise jars... that should have been your selling point.
Funny you say that USMC. We went to buy a Bosch. But after looking at it, the wife pointed out how awful the rack system was. It had small angled tines. Looked like it would be great for your fine China but not much else. We ended up getting a higher end GE from a local appliance store and have been happy with it.
