Got a question for our resident mechanics.
My truck, 97 gmc k1500 is throwing a p1406 code ( egr valve pintle position)
About two years ago around this time truck started acting a little funny with just a random misfire. Pulled the code and it was for the egr valve. It looked to be the factory original so I just replaced it. Couple months later I replaced the ECT sensor as well due to rough startup and rough idle. That all seemed to take care of the problem and she was back running like a top until last March when the egr valve code popped up again.seeing as how the valve was only a year old I took it to a reputable mechanic here in town and had him look at it. He said according to his computer and looking under the hood there were no other problems and to just try a new egr valve. put a new one on that afternoon and haven't had any problems up until last week when I noticed something didn't seem right, sure enough it was the p1406 code again.
Question is, am I just having bad luck with egr valves ( in 1yr increments) or do I have an underlying problem causing this and what could that be? I took the valve off today and sprayed it out with carb cleaner until it ran out clean and there was no noticeable carbon buildup in the egr valve or the intake where it bolts on. The current egr valve is still under napped warranty until late next week as i still have the receipt
