    Default Santee Cooper Stirper

They approved a striper bill in house ag subcommittee extending the season from June 1 to June 15th.

They also said the limit was 3, three could be in the slot of 23 to 26 inches or one of which one could be longer that 36 inches but two in the slot.

    (E) In the Santee River system from October first through June fifteenth, it is unlawful to take or possess a striped bass less than twenty-three inches or greater than twenty-five inches, provided that one striped bass taken or possessed may be greater than thirty-six inches.

It would be enacted upon passage of both bodies and immediately upon singe by Governor.

"It is unlawful to take". Does this mean catch?

This legislation is driven by the tourism industry around the lake. They say it is nearly impossible to catch a 26 incher. Tourists want to eat a couple. DNR said the fishery has greatly improved and figured the slot would allow the fish to breed and allow for some to eat.

Personally I believe the fifteen extra days in the season will cause many to die from catch and release but the slot will allow some to be eaten by people instead of turtles.

If duck hunters could get santee cooper and dnr in their pocket like the damn yankees and fish guides do we might be able to get some ducks here. Every new law benefits everyone except the common man trying to catch a fish on the weekend
No grass, then spraying, then grass carp then limiting a damn catfish size but let commercial fisherman come in and transport tons of catfish out of our lakes. Its messed up IMO. If those tourist want to eat a striper there are plenty of places to catch em in sc with very limited rules. They need to make some decisions to actually do some good for the masses. Put some major effort in getting some grass in the lake and have limited access areas. Bog already proved how its helped the refuge. #makesanteegreatagain!!

The extra 15 days must be pushed by the guides. Not a good idea....Imho.

I hated to complicate matters by fussing about the 15 days. Many fish will be killed. We needed to say you must keep the first 3 fish caught no matter the size during the first 15 days of June.

Yes. Thats a start my vote is making it first three the whole time like other lakes in SC. Will be alot of unneccesary dead fish that feed turtles instead of humans
