Default Bush hookin on wateree question

My buddy bought a new boat at the boat show this weekend and we are planning on doing a little sand bar camping and some bush hooking. I am just curious if it is even a good time of the year to bush hook? And if so what is the best bait because all I have is cut bream.

Wait until July. That's when it gets good.

I believe it is illegal to bait bushhooks with gamefish (bream), but you better check the regs. It is always a good time of year...

For the sake of all things good, please bring your lines back home with you.

Otherwise, like JAB says, it's always a good time of year.

ETA: No bream as has already been stated.

No...using bream is 100% legal...they have to be cut though. What kind of fagot ass gamewarden would actually write someone a ticket for using the wrong bait on a bush hook? Karma is a bitch....that would definitely give someone some bad vibes for being such a prick.

From SCDNR regs: No game fish (except bream, excluding redbreast, cut into two or more equal parts), live bait or any bait other than bait listed below shall be used with trotlines, set hooks and jugs: soap, doughballs, (nongame fish or bream, excluding redbreast, cut into two or more equal parts), shrimp, grapes or meat scraps (which may not include insects, worms and other invertebrates).

    Bream should be ok.....

It took you longer to type the question than it would have taken you to do a little research where all the legal information is readily available.

I caught these out of a different river system using live bream on a trot line.

Live bream is what we use, but we fish the LPD and BPD some.

Ivory soap works on trotlines and and bush hooks too. It works, but I catch way more on cut bait. I use it every once in a while just for the nostalgia of it. Ive had alto of old timers tell me to use it. I bet it would a shit show if a gw saw me using soap for bait.

This. Lines that are left hanging on a limb are a hazard. And if you camp, bring a shovel and take ALL of your trash with you.
