Default Saluda River - New Boat Ramp @ Hwy 39

I passed by a new ramp on the Saluda River at Hwy 39 in Chappells.

Has anyone put a boat in at this ramp?

A few years back I kayaked from the Lake Greenwood dam to Hwy 121, and I remember some really shallow water around that stretch. I can't imagine going through the rapids/rocks just downstream of the ramp with an outboard.

It appears to be designed for boats.

There was a jon boat trailer in the lot when I stopped in.

I think there's a stretch for about 1/2 mile on either side of 39 that you could slowly run an outboard. Go for it. Take an extra prop.

Glad it's there. Makes a yak trip more enjoyable not having to tote it a few hundred yards after fishing all day. As for a boat, if you have a jet prop maybe but there is some very skinny water there with rocky shoals.

Ramp has been there about 2 years now. You got rapids above and below. You won't go too far with an outboard unless they are running a little water. I rode from Kempson's to the S turns and big sanbars today. Water is still pretty low. Rocks were showing.

There's a rock below the s turns that has taken out many a lower unit.

Yea, I saw some good ones today. Didn't hit any. There is one boulder on the left side of the river as you are going up thats about as big a volkswagon bug. Its just a little ways below the hard 90 degree right hand turn before you get up to the s turns. The top of it is about an inch out of the water. Hard to see if you don't know its there.

We floated from there to 121 last June. I scraped the bottom a couple of times in my 13' Gheenoe. It's skinny

I've put in there a couple of times and went up through 3 sets of rapids in my jon boat. They were letting water out and it was still a little aggravating. If the water isn't moving you won't motor up through them. Good fishing though.
