Swamp Rat, I presume this is the method. A two hour tow.

Mature Flounder breed offshore during the winter...

sadly shrimp boats do a lot of damage to the fry returning to the inlets...

If you've spent time on a shrimp boat then you know what it's like...

Exactly- commercial guys are not good stewards. Yet they control the process... Down Eastern NC they'll burn your house or business down if you're outspoken against them.

    NC is the worst...

Their commercial harvest of game species is ridiculous...

If your having blackened redfish in a local restaurant in the southeast you can almost guarantee its from NC...

Most commercial flounder fishing is done quite a bit north of here.

Update on flounder bill. The House Ag committee is recommending a 15 inch size limit and a 10 per person and 20 per boat catch. It is 15 and 30 now.

Why not 15 and 5 per man? The proposal of 2 under 15 is like eating a whole fried breakfast flounder at Thomas Cafe in G'town 40 yrs ago. They were great but way to small.

You realize that the vast majority of undersize flounder are harvested at the hands of a gig? Make it a 5 man limit and be done with it. You ladies in Columbia could complicate a wet dream.

How about getting rid of the size limit due to the fact that if you hook an undersized flounder the majority are killed on release. Look at Louisiana, they have no size limit and have a productive fishery. If you get rid of the minimum length, make culling illegal.

Flounder are pretty tough unless guthooked or mishandled most all are going to survive when released

DNR were worried if they reduced the limit far enough to make a difference it would not be well recieved. They felt it was much more important to increase the size of a keeper rather than reducing the limit. They said you would have to reduce the limit all the way to 2 fish to make any difference. They said the average per person angler catch is just below 3. The average gigged was almost 5.

They chose 15 inch and 10 to move to full committee.

Remember, all it takes is one person who is close friends with a senator to stop a bill. DNR recommended the 15 inch.

Only 30% of the females are actually mature enough at 15 inches to reproduce. DNR did not want to recommend a drastic reduction that could hurt the chances of increasing the size to 15 inches.

Any real flounder person knows that the size caught and numbers have decreased over the years. Look at the results for the tournaments over the last 20 years in MI and it is obvious. Used to be I could catch good fish 20"-22" fish , now I would be lucky to catch a 18" fish. Same in PI. Is it giggers maybe , but they can't gig within 100 yds of the jetties in MI unless it has changed. I have caught money fish around the jetties now you can't buy one.

I still think they should bump the size up even more to like 17"
