    Default Photo dump 16-17

Was a strange season for me, with low water here and out west, but we made the best of it. I managed to be out west for the freeze, which worked out well for us. The last week or so was tough, with very stale, educated birds that had figured out the safe areas and really didn't want to leave. Decoy shy and call shy is an understatement. I watched live ducks flare off of other live ducks more times than I care to remember. I came into this season thinking this was going to be my dog's last year working, but she ended up surprising me and looking pretty healthy, weather depending. She had to take a day off here and there to recover, especially after breaking ice one 14 degree morning. We hunted a lot of rice fields, which I thought would be tougher on her slogging through the mud. She made me proud though, slowly getting the ones we killed, and busting her ass chasing our cripples. Overall, it was a good one. I'm tired and glad it's over but within a week I'll be looking forward to and planning for next year. Here are some of the better hunts, I may add to it as I find pictures from earlier in the season.

It was a fun season indeed.

Let's do it again next year.

I'm down. But next year, more timber and less laying in a rice field. I hope the rivers cooperate.

I used a Cabela's Ultimate northern flight, and stayed pretty dry. Everyone else used regular layouts, and looked like they had been swimming. I think the neotubs would work fine, the Invisilay would put you a good 18" above the rice stubble.

    Well done! Great pictures too.
