    Default Weapons at school

What is considered a weapon as far as school goes. Here is the situation. My 12 year old daughter saw four boys holding a loaded pistol clip at school today. She reported it and long story short. No gun was found, all parties returned to class both my daughter and the boys were in the same room so they know who told. I am not happy

They had live ammunition in school? That seems serious. Was the ammunition found?

What did the administration tell you? That seems serious enough to have the police involved.

It was found and loaded with live ammo. Admin called and asked us to tell our daughter not to speak about it at school.

If I were you she would stay home tomorrow and I would ask to meet with administration to see what course of action they are taking. If you don't get a satisfactory answer I would suggest heading to the District office or to see the school/district policy on such issues. I teach in a neighboring county and that is a very serious topic that we have been covering and training about the last several years. There are some crazy kids/parents and most administrators are spineless.

Sorry I assumed Newberry. Still a serious issue to be concerned about. That pistol wasn't found but no doubt it was in or near the building.

Why would he punish his daughter by holding her out of school because of the stupidity of others? Were there threats made to her? Are there SRO's on the campus?

Why not explain the reality of the situation to her, let her know that she did nothing wrong, and let her respond to the situation and build a sense of responsibility within her?

Maybe I am speaking out of turn, but unless there are more details that I am not aware of, she does not deserve to be the one who becomes the victim.

If I was 12 years old I would not consider my dad holding me out of school a form of punishment.

Also, if the person who brought the magazine to school knows she told on them they may try to retaliate in some form.

Personally, I don't feel that this is being handled properly by the school administrators.

Doesn't sound like the school has done too much to punish/investigate the matter. Cuforester said that they knew his daughter is the one who told and that's why I suggested her staying home until he felt she was safe/protected.

I understand. I also understand that a few sentences on a message board on the internet don't tell the whole story.

Based on what was shared, the daughter is not the bad guy. She should not be made to feel like she did something wrong by being held out of school. She did the right thing.

Unless there was a specific threat made to her, or it Dad doesn't feel like she was safe on campus, she should be allowed to go about her business.

I can't disagree with that at all. I agree that she did the right thing, I just don't trust 12-15 year olds. They got all kind of crazy running through them, especially those that have a mag at the school house.

I will escort her into the office in the morning. If the other child is not at school she will stay if he is the decision will be hers to make. Either way I will have a conversation with the principal and SRO. If the admin does not wish to tell me what I want to know I will go above. Either way having them in the same room is not the right thing to do. She says he kept looking at her and calling her a snitch. I feel like the whole situation was not done properly, and something just doesn't seem right.

Cry me a river, you've let the arfcommer's anal retentiveness invade your brain. About 90% of people growing up in South Carolina refer to mags as clips.
