Default The best thing about my kitchen is ___________

OK. I have been given the unique opportunity to rebuild my kitchen....from scratch. Suffice it to say I was just getting a new floor when we unearthed a strange leak in my freezer that my insurance isnt paying for....and I ripped out my entire kitchen this weekend.

What is one thing you have in your kitchen that you like? From the counter tops to the cabinets. Also, the laundry room. Shelves, storage, etc.

I am open to any suggestions.

    ready, set, go
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.

Heavy duty 2 fan Bosch exhaust fan over stove. It's ducted out through the roof and cost a bit more to do but is well worth it whenever we are searing steak in the cast iron skillet for example or the wife is burning stuff. Really helps get the smoke out of the house.

Whatever you do, dont get a microwave/oven combo. The microwave will go out long before the oven will.

A gas stove on an island facing a view or towards people. A pot filler on top of range.

The best part of any modern kitchen is interaction with the family, even if you need to knock out a wall so the den or dining room connects.

    I'm with DT.

The best thing about my kitchen is that it's also the living room and it's a dining room too.

    32'x40ish' open room. Love. It.

Also the cabinets under the high bar were a nice touch for added storage.

I don't care for island ranges. I mean I've cooked on the one at one of your places, it's nice. It's just not my style. Go with at least 36 inches on top, 30 inches is for kids. Venting is very important to me. I'd of liked a pot filler, it's no big deal, just a couple steps over. I like my kitchen. Instead of pot hangers I went with some built in slats in the cabinets for pots and pans. That way I can hide them. I also hid the microwave, a small one, in the built in pantry. Microwaves are for cooking popcorn, not for show.

Ive always liked a large island with the sink placed in it. Gas range with a faucet so you don't have to go back and forth to the sink if you need to add water to what you are cooking. Also cement counter tops are on my list.

If you cannot connect to another room consider having two levels of granite. One normal height with a splash back and another top where people can pull up a stool and interact with the cook.

I agree with an open design. Our living room, kitchen and den are all one open area. This is when our house was done. If I could do it again I would've went gas stove and just a range vent above it.
