    Default 01.20.2017 Rainy Upstate Hunt

Well I finally had a halfway decent hunt this AM. With an infant son and moving at the beginning of November it's been rough trying to find time to hunt and scout, especially with the lack of rain. Got rained out of work so a work buddy and I took to the farm pond behind his house. 2 mallards, 2 Spoonies, 1 bufflehead, and 1 lawn dart. The merganser came in with 2 buffleheads in our defense! She will serve well as a training dummy though! We should've had 5 or 6 more mallards but they caught us off guard or while we were retrieving ducks. The way this year has gone for me I'll take it. Also the first bootlips ive seen in the upstate since I've lived here for 15 years.

That bologna snatcher is definitely a B&C caliber bird. Congrats on a fine mixed bag hunt.

The shovelers will eat just fine and the merganser will eat even better.

I envy you upstate boys sometimes.

Farm pond mallards, beaver pond blacks....

I need a buddy up that way to trade lowcountry hunts for some wild mallard hunts.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

X2 The only thing in my farm ponds and beaver pond are wood ducks and mergansers.

    Nice hunt.

Sitka timber pack. It's pricey but well worth the $$$. Best duck blind bag I've ever owned. Has a tree strap with a gun hook and bird totes. Plenty of storage, bottom third is completely rubber or pvc coated so it won't absorb water in the bottom of the boat and all zippers are waterproof style zippers.

No, I just believe in spending money 1 time and having something last 10+ years. If I bought drake shit (which is what it is..SHIT) I'd go through a bag every year or too as hard and demanding as I am on my gear no matter how well I take care of it. Columbia is the only other brand I will buy because these are the only 2 brands that actually stand behind their products. Also they're not stitched together by some adolescent in China!
