Petition to keep hunting in Murrell's Inlet
Please take 3 minutes to sign the petition below. I have never hunted in Murrell's Inlet but I have been birding the place since the late 1980's.
There is an on-going effort to close all of Murrell's Inlet to hunting by designating it as a "Bird Sanctuary".
If I really thought this was about the birds, I'd have a hard time not supporting it but it is 100% an anti-hunting effort. Even with hunting being openly allowed, Murrell's Inlet (that includes Huntington Beach State Park) is the absolute best birding hotspot in South Carolina with 313 bird species documented in the SP alone.
The real danger of this is just precedence. Any community that doesn't like to hear gun shots can simply ask the legislature to designate them as a bird sanctuary and close all hunting.
Be sure to uncheck the "Keep me informed on this and similar petitions" box to keep from getting emails.
The birders have 800 signatures on their petition so I'd like to think that with 13,000 members of SCDucks we can muster up at least 1,000 signatures ourselves before January 26, 2017.
