    Default Left-Handed Pistols

Curious as to why no major gun manufacturers have come out with a true left handed pistol. I'm sure the issue is cost being that only 10 % of the population is LH. It wouldn't seem that they would have to invest in retooling for an entire firearm.

They make 'em. They're called revolvers.

I guess I should have been more specific

A revolver, to me, is more dominant-hand specific than a semiauto. A lot of semiautomatics have ambidextrous safeties, and can have the mag release switched to left handed. Other than direction of ejection, they are really ambidextrous. And, even when I shoot left handed, the ejection never bothers me. But the cylinder latch on most revolvers is best operated with the right thumb, and can't be switched.

I just wonder why they can't or won't build the machining for the slide. Seems like that would be the only thing they would need to change.

Because cartridge case ejection direction is irrelevant in a handgun. It's way out in front of you, as opposed to closer to your face with a shotgun or rifle. A properly tuned handgun ejection never gets in the way.

Slide release on the left side is aggravating as well

That is a factor IF you use it to release your slide after reloads. I try not to do that (grasp the slide and pull it to take it out of slide lock on a reload) - which is another ambi skill. The only other time you would operate that lever is to activate it. With a little practice, you can use the joint of your (left) trigger finger to engage it.

I get the point, but the bottom line is that it has likely been found to be cost ineffective from a production standpoint to make left hand-specific frames and the other parts that may need to be made. It makes far more sense for long guns, yet, as a group, a low percentage of gun manufacturers do much with those either.

I doubt that's true- the left hand palms the revolver and rotates the cylinder- that is the small part of the reload- most of the functions requiring finger skills are done with the right.

A top break revolver it truly ambidextrous
